Indorama to invest in Thailand PET recycling plant

The world’s leading vertically integrated polyester value chain manufacturer, Indorama Venture Capital Co., Ltd. (IVL) will increase investment in Thailand and build a new recycling plant in Nakhon Pathom Province near Bangkok, which is a polyester fiber of its subsidiary Indorama Polyester Industry. According to the new project, discarded PET bottles will be collected and recycled to produce high-quality resins and then to produce beverage containers for consumption; yarns for the production of environmentally-conscious branded high-end garments; and for the production of automobiles and nonwovens. The new investment project will be able to recycle 36,000 tons of bottles a year, producing approximately 28,500 tons of recycled polyester.

Indorama Ventures expects to invest further in Thailand's hygiene and bi-component fiber applications market. The company is actively investing in the nonwovens market and has recently acquired the bi-component fiber capacity in Europe in order to enter the sanitary products industry.

This new project will produce a key product for Toyobo, a well-known Japanese company, which is a two-component fiber used in the manufacture of hygiene products. The project has an annual capacity of 16,000 tons and will be built in Rayong, on the east coast of Thailand. This project is expected to start production in the second quarter of 2012.
