The historical value of pearls

Because of the elegant and holy character of pearls, and because of its confusing life, in ancient times, pearls were seen as a symbol of power and wealth. The Chinese and foreign emperors' Wang Guanzhu, Quanquanzhu, Chaozhu, Dragonpao, and Armored Beads are all symbols of the highest power of the country. In history, many countries have thus enacted legislation that makes pearls a royal family member. The rulers also repeatedly waged bloody wars for the struggle for pearl resources. As early as 3,700 years ago in the Shang Dynasty, pearls and oysters were tributes. The Minister of King Tang has suggested the formulation of a "four-party offering": "Zhengnan...please give the pearls (ie pearls), 玳瑁... as a contribution."

The religious world uses pearls to evoke loyalty to faith. Among the "seven treasures" in Buddhism, there are pearls, which are set on the Buddhist sacred objects and accept the worship of the believers. The crown of the Queen of the British Empire is set with 227 pearls. One of the pearls produced from the white butterfly shell is 1.8 cm in diameter. It is said that the British colonists looted from the South China Sea. The crown of the Russian Queen Ekaterina II is set with 80 capsules of valuable pearls.

According to the literature, Cixi wore a golden crown on his head, inlaid with an egg-sized dragon and phoenix from the Nanyang tribute. Unfortunately, this bead was excavated by the warlord Sun Dianying. It is said to have been given to Song Meiling. Qianlong’s pearls are also made of 108 pearls.
